Check out this easy to make, health-ified margarita recipe. As I always say, homemade is best, and here you have a truly homemade from scratch margarita. Your body will thank you!
I despise the margarita mixes found in the grocery store. Usually the first ingredient is High Fructose Corn Syrup and a lot of it; 28 grams per 1/2 cup to be exact, then top it off with some unpronounceable ingredients and yellow #5. My friends, I think this is where the headache is coming from the morning after!
So I finally tried to make my own and it’s delicious! Simply mix a few natural ingredients and some Jose Cuervo, Triple Sec and ice and you have yourself a beautiful cocktail.
Price and Ingredient Highlights: The main ingredient is lime juice. You can juice your own (which will take a while for large portions) or a buy lime juice. They sell organic non-concentrated lime juice in the health food isle. It’s a bit pricey, at $4.29 per for 16 ounces but still cheaper than going to the bar. The regular lime juice is $2.29 in the juice isle.
Fresh Margarita Recipe
Serving Size 5-6 (One Pitcher)
1 ¼ cup Lime Juice
1 Cup Tequila (Jose Quervo)
½ Cup Triple Sec
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
2 Tablespoons Agave Nectar
1 teaspoon salt
6 Cups Ice
Directions: In a pitcher, combine lime juice, Tequila, Triple Sec, Lemon Juice Agave Nectar and Salt. Stir with a ladle. Add Ice and let sit for 30 minutes to an 1 hour to allow the ice to melt. This will mellow out the tangy lime and the heavy Tequila. Taste and adjust if necessary.
