Fresh, welcoming, homey and cozy; all words to describe Roots Cafe in West Chester, PA. Perfect for breakfast or brunch, the menu is unique and local.
What a treat to dine here for brunch with my new blogger friend Opera Singer in the Kitchen! With our foodie hats on we were ready to try and critique this locally raved menu.
Roots Café is one of my favorites in West Chester because of their abundance of local food and the cozy atmosphere. Make sure to get there early because it’s always packed and they don’t take reservations (except for dinner).
I love the decorative chalk boards throughout. Artistic and informative, they give a homey feel to the place, while letting you know what Roots Café is all about.
We sat on the back patio and it was picture perfect, like being in your own back yard, but better because other people are cooking and cleaning.
The Food:
For starters they have a nice selection of drinks including Peloton Cold Brew coffee. They have everything from your standard toast and eggs to a pork sausage breakfast burrito. As far as health conscious options go, they have tons of vegetarian options, a few things that can be made vegan and even gluten free toast!
Eggs Benedict – They have several varieties and we tried the Root Vegetable Latke and Portobello, which was a treat if you like mushrooms. The flavors of the onion latkes and ‘shrooms worked well and the textures too.
Quiche du Jour – This week’s was asparagus, tomato and mushroom. The quiche was cooked perfectly for my taste, not to dry, not to watery – crispy perfection. An added bonus is the fresh green salad with house made balsamic dressing.
Farmers Omelette – Get the omelette!! Any will do but for veggie lovers this is it! They use local in season veggies and fill them to the max, then add a side of potatoes to fill the plate. Mine was full of roasted red peppers, squash and spinach. This is a must try!
The Service: Staff was welcoming and happy to chat about the menu and where the food is from.
The Price: All entrée type items range from $7-$14. I would call that reasonable for farm to table in the burbs!
